Cerberus - Guardian of the Underworld
A three headed beastie standing at a confluence of rivers. A horned ferry-person in a small boat is coming down the central river, a crescent waxing moon to one side.
Cerberus frequently is depicted and perceived as a monstrous and horrendous creature, one that must be subdued, tamed, captured, shunned.
My version of Cerberus, with the heads of two foxes and a wolf, is a gentler creature. There to guard the inhabitants of the underworld, to keep them safe. Making ‘the underworld’ a place of retreat, a safe space, from which to return to the world above when the time is right.
There is a mischievous and tricksterish quality to them, of course, there are foxes involved. But if crossed they will stand up, they will fight, they will go into protective mode.
May you always be favoured and protected by this Cerberus. Offerings can be made involving pomegranates, jam sandwiches and pancakes.
