The Ruffled Fox
'There’s a group of hills on the eastern edge of Barrowcross they call the Pony Hills. Most reckon them haunted, but not by people, but by ghosts of vanished trees that made a forest and animals we don’t have now. Shades of bears, great worms and the ruffled fox. - Tom Rudd
CL Nolan wrote about the Pony Hills in his essay ‘Walking the Ghost Soil - the Pony Hills’ and in the story ‘Once-Was Forest’ - in which a ruffled fox plays an important part.
